Samarkand Marathon: More Than a Race

It is the energy of movement, the joy of pushing boundaries, and a love of sport that brings people together. It is an opportunity to challenge yourself, step beyond your comfort zone, and prove to yourself that you are capable of more than you think.

On November 7 - 8, Samarkand will once again welcome running enthusiasts from around the world for the Samarkand Marathon, an event that brings together sport, charitable giving, and the discovery of the city’s rich historical heritage.

International interest in the event has grown significantly this year, with participants from 63 countries already registered. Registration remains open.

The race will start at Registan Square, with the route winding through Samarkand’s historic centre and past its architectural landmarks. For participants, the race offers a unique opportunity to combine a personal sporting challenge with the experience of running through one of the world’s oldest cities.

Yet the Samarkand Marathon is about more than personal achievements and finishing times. It is also an opportunity to invest in the future of children. All funds raised go towards the construction of children’s sports grounds in the regions where events in the series take place. In this way, the determination of runners to push their own limits helps create new opportunities for younger generations to embrace sport and an active lifestyle.

The programme offers a range of distances for runners of different ages and abilities, including the marathon, half marathon, 10 km and 5 km races, as well as an inclusive 5 km race. Participants can also choose a 2 km run or 2 km Nordic walking route. Younger participants are invited to take part in children’s races over 60 m, 300 m, 600 m and 1,000 m, with an additional 60 m inclusive Kids Run.

The event programme also features plogging, the Samarkand Marathon EXPO, guided running tours, and a concert. Everyone can find their own reason to take part: to test their limits, share the excitement with like-minded people, discover Samarkand from a new perspective, or simply become part of a vibrant celebration of sport.
