Eco-friendly brands

Sustainability and eco-friendliness are more important than ever in fashion. Many designers now shun animal products, utilise algae and recycling fabrics and have made upcycling a buzzword. Here, we highlight four planet-friendly Uzbek designers.

J.Kim

J.Kim has received worldwide recognition as an eco-friendly Uzbek designer. Each collection reveals a multicultural theme drawing on Asia aesthetics, from Korea to Uzbekistan. J.Kim reflects fashion with meaning, giving the opportunity to become acquainted with rich cultures, national clothes, lifestyles, architecture and traditions. To create collections, the designer uses antique fabrics, which do not add pollutants or industrial waste to the environment and give beautiful fabrics a second life.

Azukar Moreno

Rather than pursuing mass appeal, this brand is focused on taking care of the environment. They operate a showroom in Tashkent’s Ethnopark, which captures the ethics of the brand perfectly. Azukar Moreno’s ‘eco-collections’ are made from natural fabrics and use ready-made materials. Nothing is specially produced. The designer collects archives of well-preserved materials and restores them as needed. This approach allows for minimal waste, depletion of natural resources or pollution. These are clothes that do not harm the world or human life.

“If the fabric is strong, it will not deteriorate. The consumer will not throw it away and fill the trash bin, but will prefer to create a new product with it.”

Moel Bosh

Another brand that pays decent attention to environmental care, Moel Bosh’s debut collection was released in 2012 with a project called ‘Transfiguration’. Over the years, the brand has become popular at international fashion weeks. A symbiosis of chic and ready-to-wear clothing distinguishes Moel Bosh’s collections. The brand follows the green movement, taking care of nature by creating a method of recycling used fabrics.

Two Eagles

This brand is known for its bags made of natural silk, which are hand-dyed and woven using ancient methods. Creating just one bag requires around 70 hours of work by hand. These accessories can be worn with almost anything. Their silk straps are interchangeable, as they are fixed on a chain. You can use them for everyday outfits or pick up brighter ones for special outings. The brand actively supports the concept of slow fashion. They try to do everything so that accessories last as long as possible, improving their sewing production with the most modern equipment.
