Tashkent’s Art Galleries

For travelers seeking more than monuments, these galleries offer a deeper encounter with Uzbekistan’s creative identity.

ANDAKULOVA GALLERY

ANDAKULOVA GALLERY offers a refined and thoughtful encounter with contemporary art. For more than fourteen years, the gallery has built its reputation through careful curatorial work and a deep respect for the artistic process, creating an environment where dialogue and discovery feel natural and unforced.

The story began in Dubai in 2012, where the gallery established its presence within an international context. In November 2025, it opened a second space in Tashkent, reflecting a growing connection to the region and its cultural heritage. The Tashkent space feels like a return as much as an expansion, bringing the gallery closer to the histories and artistic voices that shape Central Asia today.

A strong emphasis is placed on supporting contemporary artists from the region. Their works are presented with clarity and intention, allowing audiences to engage with practices that are both rooted in local context and relevant on a global level. Over time, many of these artists have gained recognition beyond the region, strengthening the presence of Central Asian art on the world stage.

Natalia Andakulova speaks of this mission in simple terms. Uzbekistan holds a rich history that deserves to be understood and shared with future generations. Art carries that culture forward and should remain meaningful for everyone, especially for younger audiences. The gallery seeks to introduce visitors and residents alike to contemporary art from across Central Asia while encouraging a deeper connection to the region’s creative identity.

At the heart of the space is a remarkable eight-metre-long suzani, created by Madina Kasimbaeva together with fifteen craftswomen over three and a half years. It stands as both a technical achievement and a testament to collective artistry, drawing visitors into the rhythm and patience behind traditional hand embroidery.

Adjacent to the gallery, a training centre and workshop continue this living practice. Here, knowledge is shared and passed on, ensuring that the craft remains relevant and evolving.
