Once upon a time there lived a poor farmer who only had a small plot of land. He worked on it day and night to feed himself. One day in early spring the farmer began to plough his land. After he had ploughed the field twice, he sat down to rest near a stream, when suddenly a stork that had been flying above fell to the ground. The farmer saw that the stork was injured, so he immediately took it home, bandaged its broken wing and nursed it for some time. When the stork recovered, it flew away.
Bir bor ekan, bir yo‘q ekan, o‘tgan zamonda bir kambag‘al dehqon bor ekan. Uning atigi bir tanobgina yeri bor ekan. Dehqon shu yerda kechayu kunduz tinmay mehnat qilib kun ko‘rar ekan. Bahor keilb qolibdi. Dehqon yer hayday boshlabdi. Yerni ikki marta haydab bo‘lib, yaqinidagi katta soyning bo‘yida salqinlab o'tirsa, osmonda uchib kelayotgan bir laylak yiqilib tushibdi. Dehqon qarasa laylakning oyog‘i siniq emish. Dehqon haligi laylakni darrov uyga olib borib, siniq qanotiga taxtakach bog‘lab bir qancha vaqt uni boqibdi. Laylak sog‘ayib, uchib ketibdi.
A few days later, while the farmer was sowing seeds, the same stork flew low over the field. The farmer continued to work without paying attention, but the stork flew over him again and dropped three watermelon seeds.
Bir kun dehqon chigit ekib yursa, laylak pastlab uchib o‘tibdi. Dehqon esa chigitni ekaveribdi. Biroq laylak yana pastlab uchib o‘tibdi. Shu o‘tishda uch dona tarvuz urug‘i tashlab ketibdi.
A few days later, the watermelon seeds sprouted along with the other crops. The farmer tended to the plants, watering them regularly and weeding and loosening the surrounding soil. When harvest time came, he cut three watermelons and brought them home. They were very big, so the farmer invited his friends and relatives to visit, but when he tried to slice the first watermelon with a knife, the blade would not cut past the rind. He tried to cut a second watermelon, but again the knife could not cut through it. The same thing happened with the third one. The farmer and his guests were puzzled. Not knowing what else to do, the farmer threw the watermelon on the ground with all his strength and it finally split open. Everyone gasped: there was gold inside the watermelon! They smashed the other two watermelons and found gold inside them, too. The poor farmer was overjoyed; he shared his wealth with his guests and they went home happy. The farmer then harvested all the watermelons growing in his field and found that each one contained ten bars of gold. He soon became very rich.
Bir necha kundan keyin chigit bilan baravar tarvuz urug‘i ham unib chiqibdi. Dehqon ekinni vaqtida o‘tabdi, sug‘oribdi, chopibdi. Shunday qilib hosilni yig‘adigan payt ham kelibdi. Bir kuni tarvuzdan uchtasini uzib, uyiga olib ketibdi. Tarvuzlar juda katta ekan. Dehqon o‘zining yaqin qarindoshlarini va oshna-og‘aynilarini mehmon qilib chaqiribdi. Bir mahal tarvuzga pichoq ursa, pichoq sira botmas emish. Uni qo‘yib ikkinchisini so‘ymoqchi bo‘libdi, pichoq o‘tmabdi. Uchunchisi ham shunday bo‘libdi. Dehqon ham, mehmonlar ham hayron bo‘lishibdi. Yerga bir urib yorib qarasalar, ichi to‘la tilla emish. Qolgan ikkitasini ham yorib ko‘rishibdi. Ularning ichi ham tilla emish. Kambag‘al sevinib ketib, hammasini mehmonlarga ulashibdi, ular ham xursand bo‘lib uy-uylariga tarqabdilar. Uch tup tarvuzning har biri o‘ntadan solgan ekan. Dehqon qolgan tarvuzlarni ham yig‘ib olibdi. Shunday qilib kambag‘al dehqon juda boyib ketibdi.
The farmer’s envious neighbour asked him how he had become so wealthy, so the farmer told him about the stork he had nursed back to health. After hearing the story, the neighbour thought to himself, ‘Maybe I can get some gold too.’ He went to the stream and soon spotted a stork. He threw a stick at the bird, breaking its leg. The stork was unable to fly away, so the farmer immediately grabbed it, brought it home and began to take care of it. After a few days the stork recovered and flew away.
Uning bir boy dehqon qo‘shnisi bor ekan. U haligi kambag‘al dehqondan: “Sen nima qilib boyiding?” deb so‘rabdi. Dehqon voqeani qo‘shnisiga aytib beribdi. Buni eshitgan boy dehqon: “Zora men ham shunday oltinlarni qo‘lga kiritsam”, deb soyga borib turibdi. Bir vaqt boy nariroqda bir laylakni ko‘ribdi. U sekin borib, poylab turib laylakning oyog‘iga tayoq otibdi. Laylakning oyog‘i sinib, ucholmay qolibdi. Boy darrov uni tutib, uyiga olib kelbdi, oyog‘iga taxtakach bog‘lab, parvarish qilibdi. Bir necha kundan keyin laylakning oyog‘i tuzalib uchib ketibdi.
From then on the neighbour went to the field every day and waited for the stork. One day the stork did appear and dropped two seeds. Watermelons grew from them. As soon as they were ripe, the neighbour called all his relatives and friends. But when he cut the first watermelon, huge bumblebees flew out and started stinging everyone around him. The neighbour tried to disperse them, but the bumblebees swarmed all over him, stinging him mercilessly. His head, nose and lips swelled up. Unable to bear the pain, he threw himself into a turbulent river and drowned.
Boy dehqon har kuni dalaga chiqib, laylakni kutaveribdi. Kunlarning birida uning tepasidan tanish laylak o‘ta turib ikki dona urug‘ tashlab ketibdi. Urug‘i ko‘karib chiqib tarvuz solibdi. Tarvuz pishishi bilan boy dehqon hamma qarindosh-urug‘ini mehmonga chaqiribdi. Tarvuzga pichoq urgan zamon ichidan katta-katta qovoq arilar chiqib, o‘tirganlarni talay boshlabdi. Boy tura solib ularni haydamoqchi bo‘lganda, arilar uni boshi demay, yuzi demay chaqib tashlayveribdi. Oradan sal o‘tgach, boyning kallasi, burni, lablari shishib ketibdi. Buning alamiga chidolmay, o‘zini katta suvga tashlab cho‘kib ketibdi.
Thus the poor farmer was rewarded for his kindness, while his neighbour was punished for his greed and cruelty.
Kambag‘al dehqon halollik bilan murodiga yetibdi, boy dehqon o‘z qilmishiga yarasha jazosini tortibdi.
